    Head’s Up!

The end of the year message from Mrs Deakin

What an incredible end to a very successful year!

The end of term is always an emotional one as we say goodbye to Year 6 children and their families. Looking after your children over a period of 7/8 years is not only a privilege but an honour. It means we form close relationships with parents and carers and that’s a special relationship indeed. You trust us to do our very best for your children and we greatly value this. For many families, today marks the end of an era as we say goodbye to them. We would like to thank Year 6 parents and carers for their support, friendship, fundraising and involvement. They have been an incredible class and we hold them all dearly in our hearts.

I will work on the yearly overview in the holidays and will send this out to you as we return in September. I can however let you know that Meet the Teacher evenings will take place on Wednesday 4th September, 6pm for Key stage 1 classes and 6.30pm for Key Stage 2 classes. If parents are unable to attend these evenings all the relevant information will appear on the class pages on the website after 4th September. A crèche will not be available as all staff will be involved in Meet the Teacher meetings.

Our next school year will focus on Reading. We want to instil a love of reading for all children and need your help!

Over the summer, we would like all children to read as many books as possible and take photos of themselves reading (unusual places included!) and share these after the holidays. Many years ago when I was at school, schools would provide recommended reading lists to parents and whilst these are useful – there is something really special about children choosing their own books, a trip to the library is one of our family traditions and we go every month to stock up on new books. I often receive emails from parents telling me their children have chosen the same reading books and I think that’s wonderful – there is great comfort in re-reading a much loved book and  we all know children love repeating favourite things (Disney movies etc.). We also want to create opportunities for children to read every day at school and we’d like your help to read with your children every night at home! Staff will talk about reading at their meet the teacher meetings so please do listen out for this information.

I am delighted to share news that from September we will be working with Rev Naylor and Rev Arch to introduce Communion to children in Year 4+. This will be an open invitation and we are also hoping to invite parents who may also wish to take the sacrament too. Further details will be sent in September and a Parent’s meeting will be arranged to discuss any questions you may have before Communion preparations and sessions take place.

We return to school on Tuesday 3rd September and begin our 50th Birthday Celebrations, which will take place throughout the year. When Marton school was built – it was to serve the seven surrounding villages to support the Christian education for the children from the villages and we still retain this very special identity today. Please make a note in your diaries of our first birthday event which will be after school on Friday 20th September.

After school clubs will resume again week beginning Monday 9th September.

Wishing you and your families a fun filled and restful summer holiday. Take care of yourselves and each other,

With best wishes always, Nevin Deakin
