    End of year Head’s Up!

    17 July 2026 (by headmarton)

As we reach the end of another wonderful year at Marton, I’d like to thank you ALL for your continued support and partnership.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 children as they begin their next adventure and we hope they know that they will always be a part of our school family. Today we say a heartfelt farewell to some much-loved Marton children and families; some who are ending an incredible 20+year relationship with our school — thank you for the memories and for being such an important part of our story too.

This year we welcomed new members to our staff team and many new children and all have settled so well. I’d like to thank all the staff as they have tidied school and made everywhere look so beautiful for children returning. After a busy and successful year, we are all just about ready for a much-needed rest and time to recharge.

Thank you for your understanding and support with today’s early school closure; your flexibility and support have been greatly appreciated.

End of year news from staff:

    Our Year of Firsts

Reception's first day at school, so much to explore,
Twenty nine new friends soon became so much more.

Our first school lunches, stories to read,
Our first writing helped us all succeed.

Our first Nativity, singing with cheer,
Our farm trip made us smile from ear to ear.

Our first Sports Day, trying our best,
Taking on challenges just like the rest.

Now Reception's year has come to an end,
We've grown in confidence, each one a friend.
Mrs Owen and Miss Forster smile through tears of pride,
Amazed by all we've achieved, with joy they cannot hide.

We have had an amazing time in Year 1! It has been an absolute privilege to teach this class, and I am incredibly proud of how much the children have grown, learnt, and achieved. We have shared so many laughs and adventures together. Some of our favourite highlights included performing The Twelve Days of Harvest, shining in our Inn Crowd Christmas play, and Exploring our extensive grounds! We have loved many topics including Julia Donaldson books, Animals around the world, Explorers, Pirates and of course our Kings, Queens and Castles topic (even though Mrs Sparey says 'castles' differently to everyone!) I am so pleased with the progress the children have made this year. They have developed confidence and become independent learners, and they are such a polite, kind and caring bunch that look out for each other! I have loved seeing their reading confidence grow as they have mastered a staggering number of graphemes in phonics and they have truly blossomed into confident readers. I want to say a massive thank you to all the Year 1 parents and carers for your invaluable support from home this year—it has made all the difference. I am going to miss the children’s bright smiles, funny dances and groan-worthy jokes, but I know they are more than ready to shine in Year 2! Mrs Sparey

As another wonderful year in Year 2 comes to an end, Mrs Mclean and myself are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved. It has been a year full of learning, laughter and memorable experiences, with every child growing in confidence, independence and resilience. Across the National Curriculum, the children have made excellent progress. In English, they have developed into more confident readers and writers, producing a wide range of work including stories, diary entries, reports and persuasive writing. In Mathematics, they have strengthened their understanding of number, calculation, fractions, measurement, geometry and time, while becoming increasingly confident at explaining their mathematical thinking. Our wider curriculum has been packed with exciting opportunities. Science Week inspired the children to investigate, predict and experiment like real scientists, while our creative subjects allowed them to paint, design and make a variety of projects, including delicious fruit salads. In History and Geography, the children explored the past and the world around them, with our visit to Quarry Bank Mill bringing history to life through a fascinating hands-on experience. The highlight of the year was undoubtedly our unforgettable Camp In. We enjoyed playing games together, sharing a barbecue, toasting marshmallows around the campfire and spending the night with friends, it was a truly special experience that created lasting memories for everyone involved. We would like to thank all our families for their continued support throughout the year. It has been a pleasure teaching such a kind, enthusiastic and hardworking group of children. We wish every member of Year 2 the very best as they move on to Year 3 and hope they all enjoy a happy, safe and well-deserved summer holiday. Mr Marks and Mrs McLean

    Year 3 – A Year in a short Rhyme

What a year for Year 3,
Growing into juniors for all to see.
    New ties arrived (then disappeared!),
With smiles and laughter all through the year.

From cross country races to sports with pride,
And EBA dance where you shone on stage.
From a Christmas Carol to Peter Pan,
You give your all whenever you can.

We’ve explored the Stone Age, Egyptians too,
Discovered busy bees and so much new.
Your writing has blossomed, your confidence too—
We’re incredibly proud of each one of you.

A new Astro, a playground full of fun,
PE kit changes mastered by everyone!
Now Year 4 is calling your name—
Good luck, well done, and enjoy the summer holidays!

It has been wonderful watching Year 3 grow in confidence, maturity and independence this year. Have a well deserved, super summer!

    Miss Copestick and Mrs Longmuir

We’ve had a truly fantastic Year 4, and I can’t quite believe it has come to an end! From celebrating together at our Harvest Festival and enjoying the excitement of Christmas, to taking on new challenges during our unforgettable Robinwood adventure, this year has been filled with wonderful memories. At Robinwood, every child stepped out of their comfort zone, showed resilience, and made us incredibly proud. Throughout the year, we have written, learned, made, created, explored, and discovered so much together. It has been a joy to watch the children grow in confidence, independence, and maturity, both in and out of the classroom. They have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. It has made such a difference, and we are so grateful for the partnership we share in helping your children thrive. We wish you all a wonderful summer break filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of opportunities to make special family memories. We know the children are more than ready for the exciting adventures that Year 5 will bring.

Thank you for a truly memorable year! Mrs Wood

And in the blink of an eye, we’re at the end of the academic year Year 5. It only seems like yesterday that I walked into the Year 5 classroom, nervous but excited to begin. I can’t quite believe that it’s very nearly the holidays. Year 5 have been incredible this year and have created some strong and very happy memories which I’ll keep for many, many years. This week, we learnt about reversible and irreversible changes in Science, and completed our long-running cloning investigation, where we cut a stem, root, leaf and head off a plant, planted them and observed which grew and which did not. In RE, the children were posed the question ‘Is Death an Ending or a Beginning?’, learning about the Christian concept of the afterlife and comparing and contrasting this with a non-religious person’s ideas of the afterlife and with a Hindu or Buddhist’s beliefs in reincarnation. This children’s ideas of what Heaven might look like were wide and varied and incredibly thoughtful, ranging from an ever-expanding hotel to a football stadium filled with all your friends and family. In Maths, we have been learning about negative numbers and thinking about the real-life applications of these, such as in bank balances and thermometers. One of the things I enjoyed most this year was being involved in Peter Pan and watching the children grow into their role as rowdy pirates. I cannot wait to see the children up on the stage next year, where they will be the stars of the show. A huge thank you to everyone, from both Mrs Cook and myself, for your help and support this year.

Your children have been a delight to teach and we wish them, and you, the very best in the future. Mr Myers

Year 6: As we reach the end of the school year, it is hard to believe that Year 6's time at primary school has come to an end. This week, we have been busy preparing for our Leavers' Assembly, reflecting on so many wonderful memories and celebrating everything the children have achieved during their time at Marton. We have also enjoyed making the most of our final days together, sharing lots of laughter and creating memories that we hope will stay with us for years to come. Year 6 have been a fantastic class to teach. They have shown resilience, kindness, determination and a willingness to embrace every opportunity, whether that has been performing in Peter Pan, tackling SATs, enjoying our residential trip, or supporting one another through the many experiences of their final year. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and all that they have accomplished. As they move on to the next exciting chapter of their lives, we wish them every success and happiness at secondary school. We know they will continue to work hard, believe in themselves and make us proud.

Thank you to all of our Year 6 families for your support throughout the year. We hope you all have a wonderful summer, and we wish our amazing Year 6 the very best for the future. Mrs Wilson

What a transformative year it has been for your school grounds, we have new planters, upgraded areas around the poly tunnel, a wild flower patch but most importantly our incredible pond. These things have recently helped us gain another award with the Royal Horticultural Society, a great accolade to end our year.

Our pond is resplendent, far surpassing my vision already. We currently have stunning flowers attracting butterflies, bees and huge dragonflies, in early spring we are hoping to see frogspawn in the pond too. This week in the garden we have cucumbers tumbling, purple beans hanging, tomatoes thriving and sunflowers towering, in the current weather conditions this has been a challenge! All these have been planted by Year 1 & 2 in our science lessons and by members of our gardening club. I am so very proud of the biodiversity we have  achieved none of which would have been possible without funding from local companies, our F&F but most importantly my team of Year 6 boys. This quite simply would not have happened without these boys, I am beyond grateful for their unwavering enthusiasm and what a legacy they leave. Boys you truly are my superheroes.

A huge thank you to all involved, Mrs McLean

As we come to the end of another wonderful school year, I wanted to say how incredibly proud I am of each and every one of you. It has been a privilege to spend time with you through Elsa this year.  I have loved getting to know you, listening to your thoughts, celebrating your successes, and helping you through some of the trickier moments too.  Every time we met, you showed bravery, kindness and a willingness to keep trying, even when things felt difficult. I hope you remember that it is okay to have all kinds of feelings.  What matters is that you keep talking, keep believing in yourself and remember that you are never alone.

As you enjoy your summer holidays, make lots of happy memories, have fun, take time to relax, and don’t forget to keep being kind – to yourselves and to others. Keep shining, keep believing in yourselves, and always remember that you are stronger than you think. Have a fantastic summer!

    Warm Wishes,  Mrs Woodmass

Wishing all our families a safe, happy and restful summer.

Please don’t forget all children return to school on Wednesday 2nd September.
