    Head's Up!

    10 July 2026 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

What an unforgettable week it has been at Marton!

Our Peter Pan production was simply exceptional and truly sprinkled with magic and pixie dust. We laughed, we cried, and we couldn't be prouder of our amazing children, who performed with such confidence, talent and joy. A huge thank you to everyone who made it possible – our wonderful staff, Friends & Family for their continued support, and especially Mrs Cook and Mrs McLean for all of their hard work and dedication in bringing the production to life.

It has been lovely to see the children enjoying school in their PE kits this week. From Monday, we will return to our usual school uniform unless we let you know otherwise. A big thank you also to everyone who supported our tuck shop on Thursday and again today – your support is always appreciated. Finally, with just one week to go before the summer holidays, we are looking forward to making the most of every moment together and ending another fantastic year on a high.

Please don’t forget all after school clubs; including ASM have now finished.

    Weekly news from staff:

Reception enjoyed learning about pollution in the sea and the impact it has on ocean creatures. The children explored how litter and plastic can harm marine animals and discussed ways that everyone can help to protect our oceans. They created colourful, informative posters encouraging people not to throw rubbish into the sea and shared important messages about caring for the environment. As part of Explorers Day, the children loved taking part in a range of hands-on activities, including creating a large collaborative ocean scene using bark rubbings and a variety of natural materials. They worked creatively together, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and a growing understanding of how to care for the natural world.

Year 1 started the week with Explorer's day and had great fun exploring Marton Woods. They worked collaboratively with Reception to create an amazing underwater mural using tree bark rubbings, natural materials, and their own creativity.  We have been focusing on the seaside this week as we've read non-fiction books and explored poetry.  We've continued our group reading, and I am so impressed with their automaticity this week.

Year 2 have had a fantastic week filled with lots of exciting learning and fun activities. In DT, the children enjoyed making their own fruit salads, practising their food preparation skills and tasting a variety of fruits. In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction, using our knowledge to follow and give instructions. In Art, we completed our castle projects by carefully painting our models, and the finished creations looked fantastic. The highlight of the week was our well-deserved reward afternoon. The children had a wonderful time relaxing together, watching a movie and enjoying popcorn, sweets and pizza. It was a lovely way to celebrate all of their hard work throughout the year and winning the join challenge. Well done, Year 2 – we are so proud of you!

What a fantastic week in Year 3! In DT, we put our sewing skills into practice by designing and creating our very own pocket money pouches. In Science, we investigated friction by testing different surfaces on a ramp to discover which created the most resistance. The highlight of the week was undoubtedly performing Peter Pan for our friends and families. The children were simply brilliant, and it was a joy to see their confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork shine on stage. It was certainly a tiring week—but one filled with laughter, unforgettable memories and plenty of proud moments!

What an incredible week it has been in Year 4! The highlight of our week has definitely been performing in Peter Pan. We have all risen to the challenge, showing confidence, enthusiasm and fantastic teamwork. Whether on stage or waiting behind the scenes, everyone conducted themselves with true performing style. In English, we finished writing our explanation texts. We are now experts on the digestive system, so feel free to ask us anything about how our bodies digest food! We have also designed our own healthy sandwiches and can't wait to make them. In RE, we completed our unit on prayer by writing 100 blessings, taking time to reflect on the many things we are grateful for. Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Year 5 have had a fantastic week and were incredibly proud to perform as pirates in this year's performances of Peter Pan. The children showed great confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork on stage, making the performances a wonderful success alongside the rest of Key Stage Two. In Maths, the children have been exploring negative numbers and thinking about the many real-life situations where they are used. In RE, they have been learning about how Hindus worship and discovering more about their sacred texts, while in Science they have investigated pollution and measured the growth of the plants they have been cloning. A particular highlight was DT, where the children worked with Mrs Cook and Mrs McGuire to prepare a delicious and healthy tortilla meal, showing excellent teamwork and enthusiasm.

Year 6 have had an unforgettable week! We started with our dress rehearsal before performing three evening performances of Peter Pan. The children were absolutely amazing, delivering an incredible show that they should all be immensely proud of. Their confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork shone through in every performance. It has been a busy and tiring week, but every minute has been worth it! In the spare moments between rehearsals, we continued working on our Zoo of the Future maths projects and, in geography, explored the UK's water consumption and considered how sustainable our use of this precious resource really is. As we reach the end of the week, our focus has turned to preparing for our Year 6 Leavers' Assembly, which will take place next Thursday at 9.30am. We look forward to celebrating the children's time at Marton and hope you can join us for this special occasion.

Have a wonderful weekend, Nevin Deakin
