Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6 Residential this week and was reminded why I love this job. Spending time with such mature, enthusiastic, kind and supportive children was a real joy. Watching them grow into such wonderful young people is an incredible privilege. For many of our Year 6 pupils, I remember them being born, making it especially meaningful to have shared in their school journey. This week has also been a wonderful celebration of our children's talents, from Town Sports and the Music Concert to our talented soloists and musicians. Now, we’re all looking forward to next week’s Peter Pan production—we can’t wait to see them shine once again!
Weekly news from Staff:
Gardening & Eco news from Mrs Mclean: This week the children from our Eco council have recorded the final data for our contribution to the Birds In Green Spaces survey. We recorded 59 bird sightings incorporating ten different species. I am very proud of their enthusiasm for this initiative. A quieter week in the garden as our produce continues to flourish, new signs have started to appear, and bee watering stations have been put on the fences. Yes, they are ladles but I promise I've not gone completely bonkers just yet!!
Neverland News…We're Show Ready!
We've made it – we're ready for the show! The costumes are prepared, the props are in place, the songs are sounding fantastic, and the final rehearsals are almost complete. All we need now is our audience to come along, support us, clap, cheer, and enjoy the performance! It was wonderful to welcome our Year 6 pupils back today for our final rehearsal. Seeing everyone together again, adding those last finishing touches and sharing so much excitement, really reminded us what a special production this is going to be. We can't wait to welcome everyone on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week to see the incredible hard work that Year 6 and the whole of Key Stage 2 have put into making this show such a success. Every pupil has played their part with enthusiasm, commitment and determination, and we are so proud of what they have achieved. A huge thank you also goes to all our staff, whose support, teamwork and unwavering encouragement have helped bring everything together. The camaraderie behind the scenes has been wonderful, creating such a positive atmosphere where everyone has worked together towards the same goal. The excitement is certainly building, and we can't wait for the curtain to rise. We look forward to welcoming you all next week for what promises to be a fantastic show! Mrs Cook x
This week, Reception enjoyed exploring the fascinating world of the ocean. They used their imaginations to become different sea creatures, wrote simple fact files to share what they had learned, and carefully drew a variety of sea creatures, adding increasing detail to their pictures. In Maths, the children have been preparing for their move to Year 1 by exploring part-whole models and applying their knowledge of number bonds to solve problems with growing confidence. We are ready for the book somebody swallowed Stanley next week!
Year 1 have had another busy week. In maths, we've been learning how to use a calendar and have been practising using the vocabulary to support us. We've also continued with our DT salads topic by tasting a range of salads - I was so impressed with the class's attitude to just trying something new. Superstars! Year 1 have also had another fun, session with Mr Marks to help them prepare for the move into Year 2.
This week in Year 2, we have been busy with lots of exciting learning! In Art, we have been putting the finishing touches on our sculptures. The children have worked incredibly hard, showing creativity, patience, and care to complete their fantastic pieces. We are very proud of their efforts and can't wait for you to see the finished results. In Design and Technology, we have been learning about staying safe in the kitchen. We discussed important safety rules, how to use kitchen equipment responsibly, and how to prepare food safely. The children showed a great understanding of why these skills are so important. In Maths, we have been using pictograms to collect, read, and interpret data. The children enjoyed creating their own pictograms and answering questions using the information they displayed. One of the highlights of our week was watching the KS2 dress rehearsal. The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were an excellent audience, showing enthusiasm and respect throughout. It was wonderful to see the hard work and talent of the older children on display. Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic week! We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Year 3 have been busy preparing for our summer production of Peter Pan, and it has been wonderful to see so many happy, excited faces as we count down to show week! The children have worked incredibly hard during rehearsals, and their enthusiasm has shone through every practice. We can’t wait to perform for our friends and families next week. In DT, we’ve been developing our sewing skills by learning how to sew on a button, complete a running stitch and master an over stitch, while in Science we’ve explored different types of pollination. To bring our learning to life, we created fantastic pollination models and confidently explained the process using key scientific vocabulary. What a fantastic week of creativity, learning and teamwork—now bring on the show!
Year 4 News. We’ve had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 4! In Science, we have continued learning about the digestive system and carried out an exciting investigation to explore what causes tooth decay. We also discussed the importance of healthy eating before designing our own healthy sandwiches, thinking carefully about how to create balanced and nutritious meals. In RE, we have been exploring prayer, discussing what prayer means and how people from different religions pray. It has been wonderful to hear the children’s thoughtful ideas and to learn about the similarities and differences between different faiths. Well done to everyone for another fantastic week of hard work and enthusiasm.
Year 5 really enjoyed performing in Thursday's Music Celebration Assembly. Their ukulele playing was fantastic and clearly showed how much they progressed throughout the year, with Seven Nation Army being a class favourite. Thank you to all the parents for your support with your children's ukulele practise this year and thank you for those parents who were able to come and watch. Rehearsals are well underway now for Peter Pan and the children are very excited to show off their pirate portion of the performance next week. In Geography, the children have been delving deeper into the North region of Brazil, studying the Amazon river, the rainforest and the wonderful physical and human geographical features there, whilst in Maths, the children have been using the column method to add and subtract decimals.
Year 6 have had an unforgettable week on their residential trip to Manor Adventure! The children embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles, making memories that will last a lifetime. Throughout the week, they took part in an exciting range of activities, including zip wire, grass sledging, aeroball, kayaking, rock climbing, rifle shooting and archery. It was wonderful to see everyone stepping out of their comfort zones, encouraging one another and showing fantastic teamwork. The residential was about so much more than the activities. The children grew in confidence, independence and resilience, supporting each other throughout the week and demonstrating excellent behaviour that made us all incredibly proud. It was a brilliant experience and a fantastic way to celebrate the end of their primary school journey together.
The final two weeks at school are super busy, do check out School Jotter for all our special activities,
