Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
There is definitely magic in the air as we look ahead to our KS2 production of Peter Pan. The children have been working incredibly hard and we cannot wait to share their performances with you.
A huge thank you to our amazing staff team, especially Mrs Cook and Mrs McLean – an awesome duo who have helped bring the production to life. Thank you also to F&F for organising tickets and merchandise, which will be available to purchase.
With the recent hot weather, please be reassured that we have fans in every classroom, regular water reminders throughout the day and have made good use of our beautiful woods for shade. Playtimes have been carefully managed to reduce sun exposure, and staff continue to keep a close eye on all children. Children have had ice pops each afternoon as a welcome treat too.
Children have enjoyed wearing their PE kits during the hot weather, but as the weather is expected to be cooler next week, please can we return to uniforms. I will update you if anything changes.
Weekly news from Staff:
News from Neverland: We're just one week away from showtime, and the excitement around school is incredible! The whole school is buzzing as everyone puts the finishing touches on what promises to be a fantastic performance. All the hard work, dedication and countless rehearsals are really paying off. From learning lines and perfecting songs to practising dances and building confidence, every pupil has worked so hard. Behind the scenes, everything is coming together too. The curtains are ready to go up, the stage is being prepared, costumes are ready, and the final pieces are falling into place. There's a real sense of anticipation as we count down the days. We can't wait to welcome our audiences W/C 6th July and show everyone what we've been working so hard on. We're nearly there—and we'll be ready to go! Thank you to everyone for your help and support! Mrs Cook x
Gardening Club: This has not been the best week for the garden but the bonus is that every time the hosepipe is on the children get a spray! They've loved that. The last gardening club of the school year was on Monday and we planted various fruits in egg boxes along with some mystery seeds! I hope they all grow well at home!! Thank you to all the little green fingered gang that have participated this year. Finally, the pond is looking clearer, we have noticed some new visiting wildlife and both water lilies have flowered.
Reception have been learning all about money, different jobs people do, and why it is important to save. They have enjoyed exploring coins, talking about how money is used, and thinking about what they might like to be when they grow up. The children have also loved visiting the Year 1 classroom, where they have proudly shown just how amazing they are. They have demonstrated excellent learning behaviours, growing confidence, and a wonderful readiness for the next stage of their school journey.
Year 1 have had great fun as they've spent time with Mr Marks being very grown up! We've done our best to keep cool and stay hydrated; we've loved the ice pops and dancing in the rain (aka the hosepipe!) This week Year 1 have shown me how amazing they are! We've continued to learn how to tell the time (o'clock and half past), and we've focused on our reading - our comprehension skills are really coming on! Their resilience and kindness to each other have been lovely to see during a challenging week.
What an exciting week we have had in Year 2! The highlight for many of the children was our Move Up Mornings, where they had the opportunity to spend time with Miss Copestick in their Year 3 classrooms. Receiving their new school ties was a particularly special moment and there were lots of proud smiles all around! We have certainly been battling the sunshine this week, making sure we stay cool and hydrated while continuing to enjoy our learning. In English, the children have loved recounting their visit to Quarry Bank Mill and have worked hard to write diary entries based on their experiences. It has been wonderful to see them recalling key events and including their own thoughts and feelings to make their writing more engaging. In Maths, we have been learning how to collect and record data using tally charts and block diagrams. The children have enjoyed carrying out surveys, organising information and interpreting their results. It has been another busy and enjoyable week in Year 2, and we are looking forward to making the most of our final weeks together!
Year 3 have had another busy and exciting week! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Eaton Bank Academy for their RE Exhibition, where we had the opportunity to handle a range of fascinating religious artefacts and learn all about Judaism and Hinduism. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought our learning to life. In Science, we’ve been carefully recording our observations, developing our skills as young scientists, while in Computing we’ve been getting creative by designing digital illustrations to promote renewable energy. We also loved our Move Up Mornings, taking part in fun transition activities and getting to know our new classrooms and teachers. With the temperatures soaring, we’ve been doing our best to stay cool—and the highlight for many was definitely enjoying a refreshing ice pop! What a wonderful way to end another fantastic week in Year 3!
Year 4 have had a fantastic, albeit very hot, week in school! In English and Science, we have continued our learning about the digestive system, developing our understanding through reading, discussion and writing activities. The children have shown great enthusiasm and have impressed us with their knowledge of how the human body works. This week, the children have also completed their assessments. I've been incredibly proud of the maturity, resilience and positive attitude they demonstrated throughout. They approached each assessment with confidence and gave their very best effort. We have continued practising for our starring roles in Peter Pan and the excitement is certainly building! The children have been working hard to learn their lines, songs and cues, and we are looking forward to sharing the performance with you soon. One of the highlights of the week was visiting our new Year 5 classroom. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting their new teacher, exploring their new learning environment and beginning to look ahead to the exciting opportunities that await them next year.
Year 5 have had a busy and exciting week as they enjoyed their Move Up Mornings and had the opportunity to meet their new teacher, Mrs Wilson. In Geography, the children have been exploring the countries, regions and counties of the United Kingdom, comparing them with countries in South America such as Brazil and Venezuela. In Maths, they have continued to build their confidence in adding and subtracting decimals, while in PE they have been developing their athletics skills. The children have also been enthusiastically rehearsing for the KS2 production of Peter Pan, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s hard work come together on stage.
Year 6 have had another exciting week as they prepare for the next stage of their school journey. On Tuesday morning, we visited Eaton Bank for a tour ahead of the transition days on Thursday and Friday, helping the children to feel even more confident and excited about starting secondary school. In science, we completed our unit on evolution and adaptation, reflecting on everything we have learned about how living things change and survive over time. In English, we watched the thought-provoking short film Alma and used it as inspiration to write the next chapter of the story, full of suspense and creativity. As this newsletter goes out, we hope the children are having a fantastic time at their Eaton Bank transition days, making new friends and enjoying the experience. They should all now all be looking forward to their residential trip to Manor Adventure on Monday – it's sure to be an unforgettable week full of fun, challenge and adventure!
PLEASE don’t forget that all after school clubs (apart from ASM) have now finished.
Enjoy the weekend and take care in the sunshine, Nevin Deakin
