Head's Up19 June 2026 (by J Field (Year2)) |
It has been another busy week in school!
On Tuesday, our new Reception children enjoyed their first transition visit, and on Wednesday we welcomed their parents to our New Reception Meeting—thankfully finishing in time for everyone to catch the England game! If England can show the same teamwork and determination as our pupils, that FIFA World Cup trophy might just have their name on it.
Sports Day took place on Thursday and was a fantastic celebration of participation, perseverance, and team spirit. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children.
We are also incredibly proud of our Year 6 team, who represented the school at the Quad Kids event and did us proud with their effort, teamwork, and determination.
Peter Pan rehearsals are well underway, and excitement is building as the production begins to take shape. Mrs Cook and Mrs McLean have done a STERLING job and we all can feel the magic in the air.
Looking ahead, next Thursday and Friday we have our Move Up Mornings. Children should arrive at their current class as usual for registration. We will then meet in the hall for a short assembly before children spend the morning with their new class teachers.
Weekly news from Staff:
What a great week! Reception have been so busy with lots of firsts including a visit into year one and taking part in our first sports day. One of the best parts was seeing everyone throw themselves into the races for the first time with so much confidence, energy, and enthusiasm. It was lovely to watch people cheering each other on, laughing together, and making the whole atmosphere feel so supportive and full of fun. Thank you to everyone who came and joined in - your presence, encouragement, and spirit made it truly unforgettable for our first sport's day.
Year 1's highlight of the week was definitely Sport's Day. They had so much fun and the children showed wonderful resilience and determination, especially during the sack race! We are all so proud of them! It was great to hear so many voices cheering them on - thank you for your excitement, encouragement and support. In the classroom, we created some fun wax-resist and paint-wash masterpieces for the Rotary Art Competition. We are loving History at the moment, this week we compared the incredible journeys of some significant explorers. The space explorer Neil Armstrong and ocean explorer Sylvia Earle have really captured our imaginations.
This week in DT, Year 3 stepped back in time to learn about the inventor Wallace Carothers, whose creation of nylon became the world’s first fully synthetic fibre and earned the nickname “the fibre that won the war”! We also discovered the fascinating history of the sewing machine and how it revolutionised the way clothes are made. In French, we have been learning all about “Me and My Family”. The children thoroughly enjoyed singing songs, practising rhymes and building their confidence with new vocabulary. To top off a fantastic week, we had an amazing Sports Day! The sun was shining brightly, but not quite as brightly as the smiles on everyone’s faces. The children showed great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the day. Well done, Year 3 – you were superstars!
Year 4 have had a very busy and exciting week! We finished our canopic jars by creating the lids and carefully painting them. The finished jars look fantastic, and everyone enjoyed completing this Egyptian-inspired project. In English, we began working on our explanation texts about the digestive system. We started by learning about the five main parts of the digestive system and how they work together to help our bodies process food. In Maths, we have been exploring shape and symmetry, identifying lines of symmetry and investigating different geometric shapes. We have also been preparing for Sports Day. Our competitive sides came out this week, creating lots of excitement across the year group. Everyone enjoyed taking part in activities and having fun with their friends.
Year 5 have had a fantastic week full of enthusiasm and achievement. The children thoroughly enjoyed Sports Day, showing great determination and sportsmanship as they challenged themselves in a variety of races. In Music, they have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming concert on 2nd July, practising a range of pieces on the ukulele with growing confidence. Meanwhile, in Maths they have been developing their skills in adding and subtracting decimals, and in Food Technology they have enjoyed tasting different ingredients and designing their own Central American-inspired dishes.
Year 6 - In RE, we learned about Mahatma Gandhi and explored how his beliefs and values influenced his actions and inspired positive change in the world. In maths, we began an exciting project to plan, design and cost our own zoos of the future, applying a range of mathematical skills to a real-world challenge. In French, we continued learning vocabulary for animals and practised using it in different contexts. A highlight of the week was Sports Day, where the children showed fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout the events. We also took part in an important transition session, It's Your Move, led by Sue, Callum and Monica from Congleton Churches. The children reflected on the changes ahead and discussed some of the opportunities and challenges that come with moving to secondary school. There is plenty more excitement to come, as Year 6 are now looking forward to their Eaton Bank transition days next week, where they will have the chance to experience life at high school and meet new teachers and classmates.
