    5 June 2026 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all enjoyed a restful half-term break and wonderful weather last week.

On Wednesday, our ASM PE Day was a great success. Despite the unpredictable weather, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork throughout the activities. Well done to everyone who took part!

This week Becky officially joined Mad House and has already settled in so well and we have now begun to recruit for our School Bursar role for October..it’s been a VERY busy week!

We have previously added all special dates to School Jotter but please don’t forget: Year 2 Sleepover on Thursday. This promises to be a memorable evening filled with fun activities and special experiences for our Year 2 children and we can’t wait! A number of staff stay on this evening with staff staying awake all night so let’s hope for good weather!

Don't forget that next Friday is also Pyjamarama Day! Children (and adults) are invited to wear their pyjamas to school for the day. If Friday is also your child's PE day, please remember to send them in with their PE kit so they can take part comfortably in their lesson too.

    Weekly news:

Reception have thoroughly enjoyed being back at school and settling into their learning routines. This week, they were excited to begin their new topic all about a double-decker bus, making thoughtful predictions about the story and sharing their ideas with confidence. In mathematics, the children started exploring 2D shapes, investigating how they can be rotated and manipulated to create different patterns and pictures. They also had a fantastic time during ASM day, embracing new sporting experiences, developing their skills, and showing great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the activities.

Year 1 have enjoyed a pirate theme to the week as we've started our English with The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle.  We've been working hard on our phonics and are loving our alien words. We've started our RE topic of Baptism and the children have been able to talk about their own experiences.  We've also started our DT topic of Sensational Salads as we've discussed healthy eating and a chef who has created many flavoursome salads, Nadiya Hussain.  We've also been able to explore where our food comes from and the importance of supporting our farmers.

Year 2 As the children start their final term in Key Stage 1, they have a lot to look forward to. This week has been busy and the weeks will be getting busier and busier. This week we had a fantastic time with ASM on Wednesday, the sun eventually came out in the afternoon which was very much needed. The ASM staff were so complimentary about all the children but Year 2 got a special mention. On Friday we enjoyed an amazing trip to Quarry Bank Mill in Styal and learnt all about the cotton industry, the mill and the Apprentice's House. The children were beautifully behaved and represented the school magnificently. In class, we have finished our topic on Ascension and Pentecost. We have begun looking at the Great Fire of London for our diary writing. We continue to work on our time telling skills and we have set up our weather stations for observing the weather in Geography. Next week is the BIG CAMPOUT so lots of early nights in preparation please!!!

Year 3 have returned to school full of energy!  In Geography, the children became budding town planners, using aerial photographs and maps to create their own aerial plans of the school. We also explored our grounds to identify green and grey spaces, thinking carefully about how we could make our environment even more welcoming for bees and other wildlife. In RSHE, we had some thoughtful discussions about personal safety, with a particular focus on water and railway safety. The children impressed us with their knowledge and were keen to share their own experiences and ideas. On Wednesday, we enjoyed an action-packed day with ASM Sports. Despite the weather doing its best to interrupt proceedings, the children showed fantastic resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork, refusing to let a few raindrops dampen their spirits! To round off a busy week, Revd Jim visited us on Thursday to help us explore what it means to be called by God, leading to some wonderful questions and reflections from the children. It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are looking forward to seeing where our learning takes us next!

Year 4. This week in English, we have been learning about limericks and the patterns they follow as part of our poetry unit. We then used our knowledge to write our own limericks about Captain Hook. In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of time by learning how to convert digital times into 24-hour clock. We had a fantastic time taking part in the ASM Sports Day, showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event. We also enjoyed creating transition booklets for our new classes, giving us the opportunity to reflect on our year and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. Well done, Year 4, for another brilliant week!

Year 5 have had a fantastic week packed with energy and enthusiasm. The children thoroughly enjoyed their ASM Sports Day, taking part in a wide range of activities including hockey, hurdles, dodgeball, handball and rounders, demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination throughout. In Maths, they have been learning about coordinates, plotting points and using them to solve a variety of mathematical problems. They have also enjoyed their Walk Through the Bible sessions in RE, exploring stories from the Old Testament, while in Music they have been practising their ukulele pieces in preparation for their exciting upcoming concert at the Bridgewater Hall with the Hallé Orchestra.

Year 6 have made a fantastic start to the final half term of primary school! There is so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead, including our production of Peter Pan, the leavers’ assembly, our residential trip and transition activities for high school, to name just a few. It promises to be a very busy but exciting time for everyone. This week, we have begun a new DT textiles project, where the children will be designing and sewing their own tote bags. In science, we have continued our learning about evolution, exploring how living things change and adapt over time. In computing, we have been creating virtual reality exhibitions, developing our digital creativity and technical skills. Meanwhile, in English, we have been inventing and describing our own imaginative ‘Flanimals’, building up to writing non-chronological reports packed with ambitious vocabulary and fascinating facts. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!

Elsa: This week, Elsa visited each class to deliver transition interventions in preparation for pupils moving to their new classes next year. The sessions provided children with the opportunity to become familiar with their new classroom environment,  and discuss any questions or feelings they had about the transition. The aim was to support pupils in feeling confident, reassured, and well prepared for the new academic year.

Gardening club & Eco Council: What a week for wet weather!! The garden certainly needed the rain after the glorious sunshine we had during the holidays but it had an impact on our gardening club plans on Monday!! We stayed inside and painted beautiful nature inspired trees using our own handprints. The vegetables are growing well after being planted out and the remodelling of the grounds is continuing with the first plants being placed around the pond. More to follow next week!!!

We all enjoy this half term as school is such a hive of activity. Have a super weekend, Nevin
