    Attendance Matters

    2 February 2023 (by headmarton)

A message for all Parents and Carers

As part of our Safeguarding procedures, we will always support good attendance. Therefore if your child’s attendance becomes a concern; will contact you and arrange a meeting or email dialogue.

Missing a few days of school may seem harmless but research shows that it can have a significant impact on children's learning. Children who miss a substantial amount of school fall behind their peers and struggle to catch up, resulting in gaps in learning.

Poor attendance often starts at primary school, and children who fall into this pattern are likely to underachieve at secondary school. Statistics show pupils who miss between 10 and 20% of school (that’s 19 to 38 days per year) have a 35% chance of achieving five or more good GCSEs, compared to 73% of those who miss fewer than 5% of school days. Socially, persistent absence can also impact on friendships and that can be a challenge for younger children.

Lots of people feel the ‘Monday blues’ after a weekend or after a school holiday but we would urge you to send children into school and support good attendance so they can all reach their potential.

    Best wishes, Nevin Deakin
