Following an incident this morning, Cheshire Police have requested we share the following statement with you:
“Detectives from Congleton CID have launched an investigation following reports of a serious sexual assault in the town.
The incident involves a teenager who had reported that she was sexually assaulted at around 8.30am on Monday 23 January.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl is being provided with specialist support.
The investigation is in its early stages and officers are working hard to establish exactly what has taken place.
Inspector Jim Adams, of Congleton Local Policing Unit, said: “We understand that this incident will cause concern in the local community, and I want to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to establish exactly what has taken place.
“At this time this is believed to be an isolated incident and patrols have been stepped up to provide reassurance, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to an officer.”
