    Marton's Magnificent Seven!

19 May 2021 (by Kaite Worlock (vicechair))

Our newly formed 7 a-side netball team get off to a winning start in the Congleton Schools Netball Tournament.

With only two weeks training together as a team, Marton's novice netballers headed to Black Firs yesterday with an equal mixture of nerves and excitement. Having never even played a match they found themselves playing four in only two hours!

In true fairytale style we got off to a dream start winning our first match against Havannah 2-0.

Our second match against Black Firs B was really close and we were unlucky to lose that one 2-0.

The remaining two matches were against the big guns - Quinta A and Mossley A.  They ultimately went on to meet each other in final which puts into perspective just how fantastically we did in our matches against them, keeping their goal tally to single figures, losing 8-0 and 6-0 respectively. We couldn't match their physicality or skill but everyone gave it all they'd got and I really don't think they realise just how well they did. Special mention has to go to Oliver who flung himself into every defensive opportunity to secure multiple turnovers often against much taller players.

I couldn't be prouder of the determination of our players who overcame their nerves and rose to the challenge in true Marton style showing great teamwork. Chloe and Oliver were fabulous co-captains and supported and mentored their younger team mates perfectly. Thank you both, you have been an absolute pleasure to coach and I'll miss you. Thanks also to Matt Bourne for being my wingman.

Finally thank you to parents for your support and transport. It felt very special being back at a sports fixture and I'm sorry you weren't able to spectate but I hope they all came home and told you all about it?

    Take care, Kaite
