    Sports update

    22 March 2019 (by Year5)

    Spring term sports update!

At school we have had a very busy couple of sporting weeks and I just thought I would update you on some of the successes since half term.

The Year 5/6 hockey team competed to a very high standard at the Sandbach partnership Quicksticks tournament. They played 5 games in the group stages and won all 5, they were the only team out of the three groups to do this so progressed to the finals in high spirits. The finals were to be played as a triangular series and unfortunately Team Marton were just not able to build on the successes in the group stages. A very impressive 3rd place finish though.

The cross country runners have been busy in the Macclesfield races, including running at a new venue. There have been some fantastic performances, some lost shoes and some very muddy children. Last night the Year 3 and Year 4 finished the cross country season with their championship race at Falibroome High school and Thomas (Year 4) was beaten by the narrowest of margins in to 3rd place. A great team effort from all the girls and boys who ran.

The girl’s football team have continued to grow and completed their final round of the league games. Another cold afternoon at CHS, another couple of victories and an incredible second place finish. A massive congratulations to the girls and huge thanks go to the Wains for coaching and managing not just the girl’s football team, but also the boys.

Last Monday morning was the Congleton school swimming gala and some very good individual swims and some very competitive relay races resulted in the boys finishing 3rd in Congleton and the girls doing very well. Again, it was a great team effort and well done to all the swimmers.

Last Wednesday, the Tag Rugby team, spurred on by the coaching that they have been receiving from Congelton Rugby club completed their league fixtures. There was some truly magnificent rugby played and one player in Year 6 is now known as “Snake Hips” following his exceptional dodging ability.

Next week we have the finals of the Year 5/6 Netball and the Year 5/6 Cross country championships.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the children who represent the school. It is always a pleasure to see young children competing to such a good standard. Thank you also to all those parents who help with coaching, driving and supporting in all weathers.

    Thank you

    Mr Marks
