The developers have got back to me and wanted to clarify that children need to complete 12 questions per minute not 20 as previously stated (phew!)
They also recommend playing in story mode for a bit if they are getting stuck in Challenge mode as it might help increase fluency and/or unlock new challenges.
Just to clarify - any child at school is more than welcome to play on Numbots, KS2 children just need to use their Times Tables Rock Stars login details.
