Marton children have the sporting spirit!

    16 July 2019 (by Year5)

Marton staff and parents were left bursting with pride again on Wednesday 10th July by the sporting accolades of the Year 5 and Year 6 children.
Two teams of children ventured to two venues in Warrington to represent Sandbach and Congleton in the Cheshire finals of the Tri-Golf and Quadkids competitions.
After some rather long opening ceremonies, the School Games were declared open and competition got under way. At the Quadkids, the children tackled the 75m sprint with electric pace and determination, clocking up some impressive times. This was followed by the Standing Long Jump, with a spring in their step from their Town Sports victory the previous week, the children made some fantastic leaps.
After a short lunch break the children had to take on the 600m run, not ideal after crisps and sandwiches. All the children ran well and the race between two of the Year 6 boys was very hotly contested. The final event was the Vortex Howler, practicing had taken place on the Year 6 residential the previous week and the resulting throws were inspired. Now we had to wait.
During this wait, updates were being received from the Tri-Golf team who had finished a superb second. An amazing result for a school that have only started competing in Tri-Golf last year.
The Quadkids results were announced and the children had come a fantastic fourth place. The crowning moment of the day however, was when both teams were selected from their respective competitions, of over 15 teams, as the winner of the “Spirit of the Games” award. This is an award that is presented for honesty, determination, passion, respect, self belief and teamwork. All great qualities that our children possess.
“The children were amazing; they never gave up and they gave everything in the two competitions,” expressed Mr Marks, the Year 4 Teacher and PE Coordinator at Marton and District Primary School. Also a huge thank you goes out to the parents who drove and supported.
