    Head's Up!

    6 May 2022 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

Although this has only been a 4 day week, it’s been so very busy and children have worked so hard this week.

Yesterday we held our termly IPP meetings; these are Intensive Pupil Progress meetings where members of staff come and discuss every child’s attainment and progress with myself, Mrs Field and our data governor Kaite Worlock. It was a pleasure to see how hard children are working and their efforts for recovery and how hard the staff are working. I am reluctant to use the term ‘catch up’ as I don’t believe its applies for children or for any of us who have lived through a pandemic. Instead, we are focusing on children’s recovery, their resilience and their well-being as we believe this is our priority and will enable them to reach their potential and achieve well.

We further explored this today during Parents Surgery when we talked about ELSA with Mrs Woodmass our Wellbeing Champion present. We will conduct a further parent surgery dedicated to ELSA in the future if you were unable to attend today.

Our next Parent Surgery takes place on Friday 1st July and I would urge you all to attend if you can as we have invited Dr. Jill Mc Garry  a specialist in Sleep Hygiene and Psychological Support. Jill is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with nearly 30 years of NHS experience in psychological support for people with mental health issues. Initially her work within the NHS was with brain injury. Her  main focus for the last 20 years has been on Learning Disability & Autism and more recently has been extended to incorporate perinatal period (mums with babies under two with mental health problems). Throughout this work Jill has built up a wealth of knowledge and experience and is passionate about the benefits of improving people’s sleep. We know many of you are having problems with children and sleep so please do come along for some information and a chance to ask questions.

We have a number of children who are experiencing Hay fever, please can we ask you to administer a ‘1 a day’ tablet before school to support them. We are due good weather next week too, so sun cream needs to be applied before school and sun hats worn. If children do bring sun cream in, we would advise this is clearly named and kept in children’s bags.

Next week is Year 6 SATS and I hope Year 6 children and parents have read our separate message about these. Wishing you all the very best of luck next week!

Let’s hope for great weather at the weekend too!

    Best wishes, Nevin
