    Relationship and Sex Education Discussion

We would like to thank the parents and carers who were able to join us for our RSE discussion today. It was a very positive and informative discussion and we felt supported by your attendance and comments. Rev Arch led this discussion and was joined by Sue Furness our Chair of Governors.

We recorded the Zoom Meeting so those of you unable to join us can watch this. We are hoping to uploaded this securely to the website for you. All information will also be on a dedicated page on our website too.

In Summary, we discussed that we would like to use ‘No Outsiders’ as the basis of our RSE policy and scheme of work. Due to copyright we cannot copy this for you but would urge you to take a look at the No Outsiders in Our School: Teaching the Equality Act in Primary Schools by Andrew Moffatt. This is a highly effective scheme of work that uses children’s literature as a way to promote tolerance and understanding of others. The recommended reading list and children’s books used will also be uploaded to the RSE page on our website in the next few days.

We explained that as a school, we want parents to trust the staff to deliver RSE in an age appropriate way recognising the maturity of the children in our care, with the ability to answer questions that children may ask us. This will be further explored at our next Parents Surgery on Friday 27th November @ 9.15am. During this meeting we will discuss the content of the Sex Education part of this policy agreeing vocabulary among other things and we hope you can join us.

    With best wishes,

Nevin Deakin, Jo Field, Steph Copestick and Heather Sparey (RSE Leads)
